Here comes the cake
Despite the old axiom, you can have your cake and eat it, too. Today’s wedding cakes aren’t just good – they’re delicious. Though many brides still serve additional desserts, the cakes truly are flavorful enough to be dessert all by themselves.

Choosing a wedding cake is actually not a piece of cake. So many options exist these days that its easy to get a little overwhelmed. Just as you do with your wedding gown, you will probably spend a lot of time dreaming about your cake. It’s a significant part of the wedding fantasy. Expect to have two-hour consultation with your baker, ask for tastes of the myriad cakes and fillings and look through the portfolios for ideas.

At some point after the wedding cake makes its grand entrance, tradition dictates that the bride cut a piece and feed a bite to the groom; then he feeds a bite to her. The act represents their first shared sweet moment as a married couple, and it should be handled with a certain amount of decorum. In fact, today’s brides eschew the age-old groom’s tradition of smashing a piece of cake into the bride’s face., deeming it immature.
Los Angeles wedding planner Mindy Weiss swears she can always tell how long a marriage is going to last by the way a groom feeds the cake to his bride. “If he’s gentle and doesn’t let the cake get on the bride’s dress, they’re going to be okay,” she says. “ If he smashes it in her face:  divorce”. The moment should always be in good taste, but it can have some humor.  “One groom put icing on the bride’s nose and licked it off,” recall Weiss, “ and I got the feeling that they were going to have a very happy, funny life together.”
